Most play rugs come with a script: roads for cars, houses in their places, a world already decided.

Barcelona does something different. The city is only the starting point.

Children can cross the Eixample, build something by the sea, fill a park with animals, move people from one end of the city to another — or forget Barcelona entirely and invent a world of their own.

The map gives play a landscape, not instructions.

Designed for open-ended play

Tomorrow, anything.

Children rarely need much to begin a game.

A few animals. A wooden block. A stone found outside. A little person. A car.

That is why the rug is deliberately open. There are streets, city blocks, parks, coastline and water, but no prescribed game and no single scale.

Anything can enter.

The rug does not tell a child what happens next. It simply gives imagination somewhere to begin.

Barcelona has a geography that can be understood almost at a glance.

The regular grid of the Eixample meets older, irregular streets. Green spaces interrupt the city. And at one edge, everything reaches the Mediterranean.

We translated this geography into colour, line and woven texture, simplifying the city enough for play while keeping Barcelona recognisable.

A real place becomes something a child can touch, cross, occupy and understand.

Natural materials

Cotton under hands,
knees and bare feet.

Barcelona is handwoven from 100% cotton in a tactile flatweave.

No synthetic pile. No printed plastic surface.

The woven construction gives the city its texture and makes the rug suited to everyday life on the floor — sitting, building, reading, playing and walking across it.

We choose natural materials because children experience the world at close range: through hands, knees, feet and skin.

Why Barcelona?

Because Barcelona is a city made for wandering.

Walk a few blocks and the landscape changes: narrow streets open into plazas, parks break through the grid, neighbourhoods take on different shapes, and eventually the city reaches the sea.
